Responsibility to the next generation

In texting with Jasmine, I feel obligated to refrain from common texting-vernacular, such as “u” instead of “you.”  Perhaps putting too much weight to our back and forths, usually nothing more than “How you doin’?” exchanges, but I don’t want to encourage bad grammar and spelling in someone who already has so many obstacles in her path to success.  Insert stereotypes of poor urban neighborhoods here, most will apply to Jasmine.

Here’s hoping she doesn’t write “I would like 2 apply 2 ur school bc…” in a college application essay.
